Alta Via 9/ About

The Alta Via 9 is one of 10 Alta Vias in the Dolomites. It is the only one which goes from West to East, the other 9 all go North to South. As a consequence the Alta Via 9 is also know as  “The Transversal“.

It generally goes round over over the mountains using standard walking paths until it gets to the Sexten Dolomites and then it goes along an infamous section of via ferrata called the “Strada Degli Alpini” which was made during the First World War.  This is on the penultimate day.

There is a simple map of the route of the Alta Via 9 below but my tracker map will plot the route I am taking and it can be seen on the “Map” tab as I progress

Generally the weather in the Dolomites is quite stable at the end of summer however it seems this year has some exceptional weather so I have allowed 3 extra days to complete the 10 day hike.  I have not booked any of the accomodation as the mountain huts or refugios are generally not too busy,

A timetable of my intended hike is here and there is also a strava link to a map of each day with a downloadable GPX.  This timetable can be found here
